About Bheemgeet

about-bheemgeet

History always belongs to the winners, and those in power leave traces of their accomplishments everywhere, whether it be through engraved copper plates, inscriptions, or other historical documents. As a result, history often fails to provide adequate information about the deprived and marginalized classes of the time. Nonetheless, the history of social reform and enlightenment has survived through the resistance of that era, mainly through song lyrics. These songs have been passed down orally from one generation to the next, preserving the original ideas. Throughout modern Indian history, from Jyotirao Phule to the present day, The enlightenment movement has reached grassroots people through songs. These songs are invaluable in igniting the spark of revolution and conveying ideas in illiterate societies. Bhim Geet serves as a medium for organizing and preserving this history.

There is a perception in society that songs written about Babasaheb Ambedkar are Bhim Geet. However, we define Bhim Geet as songs that inspire revolution and social change, and that focus on social issues. These are the types of songs we refer to. Bhim Geet can be about any person who brings about social revolution, from Gautam Buddha to Sant Kabir, Sant Tukaram Maharaj, Krantiba Jyotiba Phule, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, Mata Jijau, Mata Savitrimai Phule, Mata Ramai, Maa Fatima Shaikh, Mata Ahilyabai Holkar, and even people from South India like Periyar and Anna Bhau Sathe from Maharashtra. We believe that songs inspired by the thoughts of these great people are Bhim Geet.

www.bheemgeet.com is the world’s first and currently the only portal for Bhim Geet. Our goal is to gather all Bhim Geet from around the world, including Qawwali, Bharud, Ovya, Palna, Kavita, Sadhi Geet, Powade, Rap, and even the struggle songs of Afro-Americans, all in one place through bheemgeet.com. For the past four years, we have been working to do something constructive about Bhimgita. Our search led us to discover the vast richness of Bhimgita, which will continue to inspire for decades to come. However, these songs are scattered in different places, and there is no system to preserve them in a digital platform. This led to the idea of re-launching bhimgeet.com through the ‘Ambedkar Lab Initiative.’ On April 4th, 2023, we launched the new bheemgeet.com platform.

A single song has the potential to reach millions of people and can be as impactful as ten speeches from me.
