These words reached the ears of Sonba, a woodcutter by profession. He immediately ran home, filled a pot with clean water, and rushed back. However, by the time he reached, Dr. Ambedkar's motorcade had already left. Sonba realized that he should never let such a situation arise again. From that moment onwards, he vowed to stand by the roadside with a pot of water until his last breath, waiting for Dr. Ambedkar to pass by and offer him water.

एके दीवशी भरदुपारी पनवेल च्या नाक्यावरुन डॉ. बाबासाहेब आंबेडकरांची मोटार भर वेगात चालली होती. बाबासाहेबांना खुप तहान लागली म्हणून ड्रायव्हरन जलळच्या हॉटेलसमोर गाडी थांबवली बाबासाहेबांच्या समवेत असलेले त्यांचे सहकारी गडकरी पाणी आणायला गेले बँरिस्टर आंबेडकरांना पाणी हवय हॉटेलच्या मालकान साफ नकार दीला हॉटेलमालक उद्गारला, महार बॅरिस्टरला पाणी मुळीच देणार नाही, हे शब्द सोनबा येलवे नावाच्या लाकुड तोडणा-या माणसान ऐकले. धावत पळत तो घरी गेला स्वच्छ पाण्यान माट भरुन आणला पण तेवढ्यात बाबासाहेबांची मोटार भर वेगान निघून गेली बाबासाहेब पुन्हा या वाटेन येतील ते तसेच जाऊ नये म्हणून आयुष्यभर त्या वाटेवर पाण्याचा माट भरुन सोनबा वाट पाहत उभा राहीला तो संपला शेवटच्या श्वासापर्यंत तो बोलत होता.
